We had the chance to sit down and chat with Nostalgix before her main stage performance at this year’s Electric Zoo, where we discussed everything from music to fitness, and what inspired her evolution into the bass-house baddie that she is today.

Anyone who’s had a chance to sit down with Negar can attest to what a breath of fresh air she is. Dressed in a white and blue tracksuit, with her flaming orange hair in cute, low space buns, we learned that she plans her outfits based on what she likes and thinks looks good, regardless of the weather. She was a little nervous, but excited, to debut new music during her Ezoo set.

Nostalgix has a high-energy stage presence, which clearly requires she stays on top of her fitness routine! We chatted about how she loves lifting to stay fit in order to jump around on stage, but also because it keeps her calm on tour. She enjoys boxing as well because it’s hard and challenging, and gets her out of her comfort zone. When it comes to her fitness routine, she looks at it like a “must-do,” and prefers to start her day with a workout, so she can get down to business afterwards.

As energetic as she is, Negar is also very grounded and not a big partier. She has so many ideas and projects that keep her driven and motivated, and it’s this drive to succeed that makes her more selective when it comes to any partying. She values getting rest and makes decisions based on what will help further her success in the long run.

But what originally sparked her interest and ignited her drive to succeed in the music industry? The answer: a Halloween rave back in 2017. She had gone with a friend not knowing anything about electronic music or the rave scene. After witnessing the magic of a Hardwell set and experiencing a loving and welcoming EDM community whose members wore whatever they wanted and had a great time, she became obsessed and wanted to learn more.

As a kid growing up in Iran, she had been captivated by MTV and American pop culture, and longed to dress like that growing up. Pulling inspiration from the likes of Missy Elliott, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilar, and Gwen Stefani, she’s created her own unique, modern-day 90’s style to bring to the festival stage.

That confident stage presence isn’t all show, as she declared during our interview that she’s “making the best music she’s ever made,” and has been putting all of her time into the studio when she’s not touring. She’s “mastering her craft, and is so proud of everything she is making right now.” Aspiring artists, take note: Nostalgia advises to

“do it for fun and out of curiosity…do it for yourself. Don’t go in trying to be xyz, go in to have fun but put in the time and effort.”

We always like to close out our interviews with a few rapid-fire, fun questions, and Negar’s answers did not disappoint. We found out her favorite colors are orange and blue, her last meal would be Greek food, and her favorite animal is a lion, because she “likes being fierce.” In that moment, she was grateful to get to do what she loved, and if  she could describe herself in three words, she’d choose kind, caring, and energetic..and we couldn’t agree more.
