It is often said that an artist’s community is a reflection of their essence and persona. Through our conversations, we can undeniably confirm that this is true for the multi-talented and down-to-earth singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ, Elohim. Endearingly referred to by her fans and friends as “El,” I could feel authenticity, love, light, kindness, and humanity radiating from her every thoughtful response as we spoke.

Elohim has been “singing and making weird little sounds” since she can remember. Interestingly enough, the rigidity of classical piano influenced her to gravitate towards and experiment with the unique and diverse array of electronic sounds and songs. While Elohim started as a personal passion project to explore various sounds, it became so much more. Although uncertainty can be frightening for some, for Elohim, creating the project has been “a really beautiful experience because I was at a time where I was like, what am I going to do with my life?…it was a really fun time because I had no idea what was going to happen after that. It was like complete freedom.”

The moment that her purpose for music started evolving was when she released her second song, “Xanax,” which details the experience of having a panic attack and experiencing anxiety in a conversational tone.

“That was when I started getting a lot of messages from people…I was writing what I was genuinely feeling at that moment without the intention of like, this is going to reach so many people, and people might think I’m absolutely crazy and not relate to this. It ended up being the opposite; it was what people related to the most and what drew people to reach out and start conversations about mental health…I realized there is a world out there that is CRAVING real music that tells real stories with an emphasis on mental health…really just being human…”

Elohim’s honesty and authenticity in both her craft and as a person are magnetic and have created deep connections between her and her fans. While battling anxiety and depression can and has been “isolating” for her, she expressed immense gratitude that the Elohim project has been bringing together a community of “truly really kind, wonderful people, and it just kind of changed [her] perspective of everything.”This is what it’s all about, humanity coming together and being happy together and showing each other love and respect.”

“Of course, I hope all these amazing things and accolades happen…selling out shows…and I’ve done a lot of that…but the reason became so much bigger than that. Because at the end of the day, that stuff goes away, but what stays is this message and community of people who come together and have these life-changing moments together…the purpose really just became fostering and nurturing this community and staying super honest throughout all of it.”

Recently, she released an existential song and commentary on humanity titled “Tiny Human” which humbles listeners with lines such as “we’re no bigger/ than some maggots in a house/ Think we matter/ When death’s a cat / and we’re the mouse.” This highly danceable, dark, midtempo song showcases her prowess and command over electronic soundscapes and music, and gives her vocals center-stage to convey the profound messages on life.

In 2024, she’ll be releasing a full-length album beautifully titled “The Power of Panic”, focusing on “being the strongest version of myself in 2024, writing a lot, connecting, even if it’s with friends,” and releasing a music video for “Tiny Human”.

“I just created a music video. I hadn’t done that in a while and…it felt really good to drive out to the middle of nowhere and shoot all night and create this piece of art. Because of the chaos of TikTok and short-form content, I feel like so many people have lost that passion for art….sometimes, I have to step away from all of this and ask, why am I doing all this?”
