Amidst the excitement of Dreamstate’s premier at the Queen Mary, we found a place aboard the ship to sit and chat with nilsix, the duo made up of well-established Trance artists Ørjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma. Prior to speaking with us, they premiered nilsix’s first performance at a US festival.

We learned about the origin of their collaborative project, and why they work so well together. Not only was their chemistry and friendship apparent, but these two are hilarious! The interview felt like an easy conversation amongst a group of friends. It was both surprising, and not, to learn that within 90 minutes that morning, they created a song together. The song was born from them just being silly and joking around, and they liked it so much they played it during their set that same night.

This isn’t as outlandish as it sounds, however, especially once we dove deeper into what Mark and Ørjan felt was important for aspiring artists to know when it came to making music. The two big takeaways they spoke on?

First, to just have fun…the best product comes if it’s something you want to do, from the heart.

And second, connect with like-minded people who are also trying to produce, find that community and learn from each other.

We at Neon Owl couldn’t agree more with those sentiments.
