Spring is here and California’s Emerald Triangle is more stunning than ever. It’s just months before Northern Nights Music Festival plants its roots once again for three days on the region’s historic Cook’s Valley Campground. With the festival growing nearer organizers announced today that NNMF is making history in 2019 as both the first-ever three-day music festival and the first-ever overnight/camping music festival to allow recreational cannabis dispensing and use on-site. That’s not all, though. Northern Nights 2019 also marks the first California sanctioned event with cannabis concessions outside of a state fairground — and where better to host the celebration than at the Humboldt / Mendocino County Line, the largest cannabis-producing region in the country. This news marks the start of a new chapter in American music events. By giving attendees the opportunity to legally buy and consume cannabis on-site, Northern Nights truly is the future of festivals, daring to embrace what the likes of Coachella and other California music festivals have yet to in light of the passage of AB 2020.
The Emerald Triangle has always been known for producing some of the country’s best cannabis, even being referred to as the Napa Valley of Cannabis. It makes sense considering the location has a deep history in cannabis with cultivation of the plant dating back to the 1960s. Jumping forward to today — a new era of cannabis — the Northern Nights Tree Lounge was the first-ever officially designated area for on-site consumption of medical marijuana at a music and arts festival in California in 2016. The festival continues this proactive legacy today with another landmark announcement for cannabis legalization. By embracing the cannabis lifestyle, the Northern Night’s forward-thinking ethos is sure to inspire music festivals in the US — and across the globe — in the near future as legalization sweeps the land.
Cannabis use will be allowed in the Northern Nights Tree Lounge recreationally for anyone who’s 21+ and medically for anyone with a valid medical card. The lounge will have 8-10 cannabis vendors to purchase product from, including the farmers themselves so festival guests can purchase directly from the source and spark up educational conversations.
CBD Yoga and other cannabis-infused activations will take place over the course of the weekend. The NN Tree Lounge is also equipped with its own stage so, yes — you can legally smoke and watch live music this year. The interactive lounge — one of six venues at the festival — is the pinnacle that makes Northern Nights the experiential event of the summer for those passionate about music and cannabis.
