It was super fun sitting down with Bruce Karlsson of Fatum for his second Groove Cruise appearance on board to the Bahamas. We got to chat about some of their highest highs, from building their incredible fanbase through Twitch over the pandemic, to playing shows like EDC and Armory with Above & Beyond. We also got to chat about some of the lowest lows that Bruce remembered clearly from years back when his other artist project (Norin + Rad) had ended and he started struggling financially to even make rent. He held dear to his heart and paid gratitude to one of his best friends for helping him out during such trying times. However, it’s safe to say that the trio that make up Fatum have proven that they are here to stay, from being grammy nominated, having multiple #1 Billboard Dance charted tracks, to playing some of the biggest shows in the world!
We learned that Bruce doesn’t actually listen to a ton of music from a day to day outside of Spotify’s Discover Weekly. It was only when he started to produce did he seek inspiration by listening to some of his influences from Eric Prydz to Ben Bohmer. He shared with us that good business and solid friendship has been key to keeping the trio together, and describes Chad as the “bossman” while Dan as the more reserved, yet most creative one. Tune in below to see what Bruce himself may be described as in the group! It wasn’t too surprising to learn all the genres Bruce takes inspiration from, since he has worked on projects from trance, to trap (Bad Royale), and his solo artist project Bebi. Watch the full interview to find out Bruce’s favorite tracks from their recent EP release Shapeshifter on Anjunabeats to who some of his dream collabs are. You can also find out some fun facts such as where he would sail us to anywhere in the world (ahem Groove Cruise), which character from Avatar The Last Airbender he finds the most inspirational, and which celebrity pop star and actress he would bring onto a deserted island. Hint: she’s one of our favorites too!
