Beats and Banter: A Conversation with Sam Wolfe and JD Farrell

During Imagine Festival 2023, we had the opportunity to chat with Atlanta-based Sam Wolfe and JD Farrell shortly after their b2b set, where the Atlanta natives, in their own words, got to play for one of the biggest crowds they’ve played for in a while. Their set ignited the stage, fusing their distinct flavors: Sam Wolfe’s raw, industrial techno and JD Farrell’s emotive, anthemic house beats. The result was a sonic symphony that left the Atlanta crowd craving more.

The dynamic duo’s first collaboration, “Moccasin,” made waves on Nora En Pure’s Purified Records. Their creative chemistry is no surprise, given their tight-knit friendship. During our chat, they playfully described each other’s styles: JD Farrell praised Sam Wolfe’s music as “inspirational” and packing a punch, while Sam Wolfe affectionately called JD Farrell a “bro” and “dog” who wields tech house beats like a maestro, weaving melodic techno riffs and basslines with ease.

JD Farrell’s musical journey began amidst a childhood surrounded by instruments. He mastered woodwind instruments and played in concert bands, later teaching himself drums and guitar. His impressive career boasts multiple Beatport Top 100 Hits, releases on Nora En Pure’s Purified Records, and support from industry giants Tiesto and Markus Schultz. He’s also opened for iconic acts like Alan Walker, Gorgon City, Kaskade, Cristoph, i_o, Tinlicker, and more, solidifying his reputation as a rising star.

On the other hand, Sam Wolfe’s journey began in 2009, when he was enthralled by a legendary dubstep show featuring Excision and Datsik. This spark ignited a passion that led him to explore various genres in the electronic music scene. Fast forward to 2020, Sam Wolfe launched his artist project, quickly catching the attention of the renowned UMEK, who became a close friend and mentor. Since then, Sam has toured extensively across the globe, leaving his mark on international crowds in India, the Middle East, Central America, Saudi Arabia, and beyond.
