If you love EDM, but also consider yourself a metal-head, then you’ll definitely love the multi-platinum-selling electronic rock band from Perth, Australia, Pendulum.
With 3 platinum albums to their name, Pendulum is easily one of the biggest electronic bands of all time. Their genre-blending fusion of metal with drum and bass has been massively successful, with the band’s rapidly rising popularity seeing them selling out global arena tours and playing to thousands across main stage performances, including a co-headline show at London’s Gunnersbury Park alongside Limp Bizkit this year.
Composed of Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen, Peredur ap Gwynedd and KJ Sawka, the band just released their highly anticipated EP Anima, out now via Virgin Music Group / Mushroom Group.
Anima consists of four tracks including:
Pendulum & Bullet For My Valentine – ‘Halo’
Pendulum – ‘Colourfast’
Pendulum & Scarlxrd – ‘Mercy Killing’
Pendulum – ‘Silent Spinner’
–
‘Halo’ definitely has that signature high-energy sound from the Bullet for My Valentine lead singer Matt Tuck, while ‘Colourfast’ is a stand-out drum and bass track.
As for ‘Mercy Killing’, rising UK metal/underground hip hop artist Scarlxrd serves up a combination of rap and vicious screamo that makes the track a thrilling ride from start to finish when backed by Pendulum’s unique brand of thunderous DnB.
“It very quickly became clear that Scar [Scarlxrd] was one of our favorite people that we’ve ever had in the studio. He’s pure energy. Nothing was off-limits. Trap verse? Let’s do it. Slightly-more-pop-punk-than-usual chorus? Fuck it, let’s go.” – Rob Swire
Rob shares that the final single, ‘Silent Spinner’, is “one of the darker tracks we’ve done. For optimal listening experience, try moving to London and listen to it at 3 a.m. when you’re having a bad week and you’ve just been splashed by a bus.”
Shortly ahead of their EP release, the band recently covered Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’ – racking up over 235K views. If the original version isn’t your speed, definitely check out Pendulum’s take on the track!
