A few months back, we got a chance to meet one of our new favorite artists and humans while on board Groove Cruise: Daniel Amezquita AKA MOSKA. I was excited to sit down with Daniel especially when I found out about him being one of the first Colombian DJs to break into the EDM scene. I’ve always felt a deep connection with Colombia, its people, and their rhythm. Daniel’s authenticity, humble attitude, positive outlook on life and unwavering passion for the music captivated me to dig a little deeper..

First off, both of MOSKA’s sets were incredibly high energy, filled with people dancing, sweating, vibing, and singing at the top of their lungs. With the countless stages on Groove Cruise, I was not surprised to see so many Colombian and Latin attendees dancing their hearts away to his music. On both nights, there was no lack of Latin flags across the rooms, especially those that were yellow, blue and red. Having been on Groove Cruise for about 10 years now, it was my first time witnessing so much proud Latin spirit all in one stage. I had already fallen quite deeply in love with the afro house scene this past year, and MOSKA’s sets did not disappoint..

After this interview, hanging out with him all week, and having him participate in our Open Door Sessions, it was clear to me that MOSKA has managed to continue growing due to his pure love for music. Having over a dozen years under his belt, I could tell that he never stopped being a dreamer, action taker, and big manifester (watch the interview to learn more about his way to turn dreams into reality).
We chatted about tuning out the noise of comparison and social media in order to stay focused on his path. I loved his perspective on having blinders on in order to work towards his goal. Surprisingly, he shares with us the simplicity of managing his busy artist life, touring while maintaining his role as a family man, husband and father to newborn twins.

Whether Daniel is expressing his emotions and thoughts in English or Spanish, you can feel his passion and sense of wonder radiate from within. Having been exposed to Colombian culture over the last 8 years myself, I have seen the important role that MOSKA has played with helping young artists, especially those with Latin and Colombian roots follow their dreams of breaking out in music all over the world. He came from humble beginnings without many resources, and has allowed for so many young kids to see what’s possible.

MOSKA has broken through many “firsts” for the Colombian people, including being the first Colombian DJ to play Tomorrowland, the youngest DJ to play Tomorrowland at the time, and being the only Colombian DJ to have worked with Tiesto. MOSKA made sure to emphasize his humble beginnings and pay homage to his friend and mentor Laidback Luke, who has helped countless other artists from Afrojack to Avicii.
MOSKA said that without Laidback Luke, he would not be the artist he is today. We also walked down memory lane of how he got discovered by Tiesto, and how one Twitter message turned into collaboration which eventually led him to playing Pacha Ibiza as his very first professional gig. MOSKA’s story is one of inspiration, hope, and possibility.

You will also get to see where MOSKA would set sail to if he were the captain of the ship, 3 words used to describe himself, and some fun clips of us singing and dancing to the Macarena together.
You can catch his headline show on 4/25/25 at HALCYON SF alongside Colombian DJ and producer HEL, who also happens to be one of MOSKA’s OG fans when he discovered his story back home over a decade ago.
