In a moment of calm amongst the chaos of Miami Music Week 2024, a jazz band packs up their instruments after their set in a swanky cocktail bar. Watching this sight, you’d be hard pressed to imagine that in less than two hours the space would be packed with a diverse crowd swirling on the dance floor as Mia Moretti kicked off the label showcase party for Diplo’s Higher Ground imprint. We were lucky to sit down with Mia to chat about her music after her DJ set.

Effortlessly mixing house, soul, and Latin rhythms, Moretti showed off her eclectic musical palette. With over a decade of experience as a DJ, it’s easy to see how these influences seep into her newer forays into production. Her latest single, Piano de la Selva, loops catchy Latin vocals echoing around the room over a persistent tech house bassline. The real star is the ethereal xylophone-esque ostinato, reminiscent of Polo & Pan’s recent releases. DJ Minx’s remix ups the ante with a classic piano house sound for a late night dance floor.

Turning the conversation towards advice for other artists, Mia emphasized the role of collaboration.
For her, being in a room and being able to toss ideas back and forth can be crucial to getting through areas where you might otherwise be stuck. That being said, long-distance collaboration can also be fruitful, especially when working with a vocal that can transform the track you’re working on into a new piece of art.
And what about handling burnout, especially for somebody who’s played hundreds of DJ gigs over the past decade?
Self care is everything to Mia:
Take care of yourself and the music will take care of you.

Her balanced mindset towards the industry and success was a breath of fresh air in an environment like Miami Music Week which can almost feel overflowing with ambition every direction you turn. It’s not about reaching for success for her; it’s about living life one day at a time, knowing when to say no, and prioritizing yourself over your career.

Stay tuned for more music coming out in 2024 from Mia Moretti and her collaborators as she continues to push outside the confines of existing genres, and her recent surprise track that she just dropped during her debut Coachella set!
