Kiesza’s triumphant return to the music scene is marked by the release of her deeply personal album “Dancing And Crying, Vol. 1,” now available on Zebra Spirit Tribe. This album is a testament to Kiesza’s journey of self-discovery and healing, a journey that is as much about letting go as it is about embracing the present.

In her own words, Kiesza explains,

This new volume, or current of music, comes out of a personal chapter of letting go and embracing the way things are as they unfold. The album takes us on a journey through time, 4 am sleepless nights of poetry, belly laughs with close friends, deep existential discussions about the nature of reality, adventures in the badlands, storytelling, Nordic blizzards, midnight dance parties, love, loss, pain, and most of all, true friendship.

This album is more than just a collection of songs; it is a reflection of the community that has supported Kiesza through her journey. Dancing and Crying is her most personal and meaningful project to date, created alongside Sugar Jesus and K. Sotomayor, who have become some of her closest friends. The foundation of trust and shared experiences is what sets this project apart.

Many listeners are familiar with Kiesza’s iconic billion-streaming single “Hideaway” and its unforgettable one-shot video, but not many would have known it was her. This kind of hidden fame can take a toll on an artist, both mentally and emotionally, which is a driving factor behind this album. “Dancing And Crying, Vol. 1” feels like a “Hey honey, I’m home” moment, reminding everyone who Kiesza is through a powerful and evocative collection of music.

Kiesza’s latest work effortlessly navigates the crossroads of dance, house, and electro-pop, infused with the folk influences that have long shaped her songwriting. This fusion of genres reflects her artistic evolution since her award-winning debut single, “Hideaway,” which launched her career in 2014. The track highlighted her abilities as a songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and dancer, receiving extensive radio and video play and earning multiple awards and certifications.

Following the success of her debut album “Sound of a Woman,” Kiesza faced the hardest work of her life—recovering from a traumatic brain injury sustained during a car accident in 2017. This experience influenced her subsequent work, including her critically acclaimed sophomore album “Crave” (2020) and a successful collaboration with deadmau5.

“Dancing And Crying, Vol. 1” showcases Kiesza’s exceptional talent for storytelling through lyrics. The album’s sound design and melodies are particularly noteworthy. Kiesza’s music often creates an aura that transports listeners to a dark place with melancholic melodies and heavy instrumentation. However, towards the end of the album, the use of pads, sharp wave sounds, and vibrant drums signals a transformation, reflecting a journey of healing and growth.

As 2024 unfolds, it marks the next chapter in Kiesza’s journey, with fresh music, performances, and other creative endeavors on the horizon. Her return is not just a comeback; it’s a powerful reminder of her artistry and resilience.
