Labor Day is just around the corner, and with a genre-defying lineup, six curated stages, premier projects and stage takeovers, the 2023 rendition of EZOO: Hyperspace will make Randall’s Island the place to be. Which begs the question…with a lineup this stacked, how do you choose who to see? 

Thankfully, we’ve compiled a list of 15 sets you won’t want to miss at this year’s EZOO.

Blanke

Stage: The Continuum

When: Friday September 1

Time: 6:35 PM

Australian native JP Orchison, known professionally as Blanke, takes inspiration from and has worked with artists such as Illenium, Seven Lions, Zeds Dead, Rezz, and Deathpact. From producing  midtempo to melodic dubstep, and bass to drum & bass, he maintains his own distinct “sound” without being pigeon-holed into one genre. Blanke has played festivals like Paradiso, Global Dance, Groove Cruise, Hard Summer, Dancefestopia, EDC Las Vegas, Lost Lands, HiJinx, Bass Canyon. He has also supported Illenium’s “Ascend’ Tour, and most recently,  he headlined his own “Earth to the Stars” tour in America.

Camelphat

Stage: The MegaMirage

When: Saturday September 2

Time: 9:30 PM

In 2008, Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala combined forces to make the English DJ and production duo, Camelphat. Spanning various styles of deep house and techno, they signed to Spinnin’ Records in 2014, and soon after enjoyed chart success with “Constellations,” “Paradigm,” “Make ‘Em Dance,” and “The Act. By 2017, they gained widespread popularity with their Grammy-nominated collaboration with Elderbrook, “Cola.” Initially, the duo wore wrestling masks to hide their identity because they “just wanted the people to judge the music and not us.” After coming together for a handful of special back-to-back shows throughout the year due to their Ibiza residencies, they released their collab with Anyma (one half of Tale of Us),“The Sign,” on powerhouse label Afterlife, making the track a highlight of the duo’s rare performances. 

MauP

Stage: The MegaMirage

Maurits Westveen is a 26 year old producer from the Netherlands, whose 2022 release “Drugs from Amsterdam” has been a global club hit since its release in August of that year.  The track’s success launched MauP’s first North American tour, selling out venues from Miami and NYC to Las Vegas and LA. “Gimme that Bounce” was released in January of this year, quickly followed up by an official Calvin Harris remix in April and “Your Mind is Dirty” in May, the latter of which quickly became the unofficial anthem of EDC Las Vegas after his outstanding performance at the festival. And most  recently, he collaborated with Kevin de Vries to release a highly-anticipated Afterlife single, called, “Metro.”

Massano

Stage: The MegaMirage

Rapidly rising in the melodic techno scene, 23 year old Massano, born Sam Rose of Liverpool, has already achieved impressive success. His Afterlife EP, “In My System” has received huge live support from huge acts across multiple genres, ranging from Tale of Us, Stephan Bodzin, Anna and Mind Against, Fisher, David Guetta, and more. While he lists Camelphat, Eric Prydz and Pete Tong as inspiration, he aims to create “futuristic, aggressive and high-energy music.”

Alison Wonderland

Stage: The Convergence

Alexandra Margo Sholler (born 27 September 1986), known professionally as Alison Wonderland, is an Australian electronic dance music producer, DJ, and singer. Known for mixing hip-hop, trap, and future bass, she emerged in the 2010’s as a key figure in the experimental bass movement. Her talents as a triple-threat producer, singer, and songwriter took center stage when she debuted with her album Run (2015). The following year, she became the first woman to play the main stage at EDC. Alison Wonderland has two Australian Platinum singles I want U (2014) and Church (2018), and is currently the highest billed female DJ in Coachella history. 

Nikademis

Nick Liuzzi aka “Nikademis” is an electronic music producer and artist from Long Island, New York. His sound is inspired by darkness, mysteriousness and anger, and also showcases empowering melodies and vocals.His soon-to-be released track, “Lights Out” already has early support from Blanke, Illenium, & others. Nick states “I was born and raised in NY, living there for almost 25 years. I moved away for the first time to Denver this past November. I’ve loved electronic music since I was 15 years old, and it has been my passion ever since, but I never attended Electric Zoo. I knew I could see the other side of the stage one day, and I promised myself that I wouldn’t attend until I was playing. It’s an honor and a dream come true to fulfill that promise to myself, and to be included alongside such an incredible lineup at my hometown festival for this year’s Electric Zoo. It’s surely going to be a weekend that I will never forget.”

3LAU

Stage: The Convergence

Justin David Blau is an American DJ and producer raised in New York and Las Vegas. He has produced original tracks including “How You Love Me,” “Is It Love,” “Fire,” “On My Mind,” and “Hot Water,” as well as official remixes for Rihanna, Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande, and has had collaborations with HYO of Girls’ Generation and gamer Ninja .[5] Of his original tracks, 3LAU notably states that “every song is somehow about being lost in some way, whether that’s in love, in life, in mental health, whatever it may be. Sometimes the lyrics shed light on the brighter parts, but in many ways, I write as a means to try to combat that feeling of being lost and I hope the music can do that for someone else.” In 2016, he launched Blume Records, an independent label that utilizes the power of streaming to raise money for charitable causes. He hopes to “inspire other people to act [so]  there will be this domino effect.”

Gioli & Assia

Stage: Morphosis

Multi-talented Italian duo Gioli (Giorgia Lipari), and Assia, (Assia Nania), showcase their skills as producers, multi-instrumentalists, singers, songwriters, record label owners, and DJs, to create music that blends the styles of techno, house, indie, and pop that is uniquely their own. Lipari and Nania have been in a romantic relationship since March of 2015, and their union as a couple is the foundation upon which they have built their musical duo. Lipari says. “If you like our music, our music exists because we are a couple.” Taking inspiration from shared musical influences including Coldplay, Stromae, Radiohead, and more, the duo has developed their own unique blend of melodic techno. Giolì plays the piano, cello, drums, guitar, and handpan, and Assia handles lead vocal duties as well as the guitar. While their professional relationship began as manager and artist, their partnership developed into a production and songwriting duo in 2016. In May of 2018, they released “Something Special” with Spinnin’ Records, shortly afterwards earning their first residency in Ibiza at Privilege.

HILO b2b Eli Brown

Oliver Heldens is a Dutch DJ and electronic music producer, while his HI-LO project, a palindrome for Oli-H, showcases a deeper, darker underground sound than Helden’s work under his own name. 

UK producer and DJ Eli Brown has a sound that captures a blend of house, techno and robust electronica, designed to shine in warehouse spaces. Both producers have come together to create ‘Industria,’ aptly named for its industrial techno sound meant to take up space in giant warehouses. Both HI-LO and Eli Brown have had notable releases on the label Filth On Acid.

John Summit b2b Dom Dolla

Stage: The MegaMirage

Tech House Chicago native John Summit (John Schuster) has amassed a following of 7 million monthly listeners, over 430 million streams on Spotify alone, and a loyal fanbase. He took piano lessons as a child, found EDM at Lollapalooza, and learned to produce and DJ while an undergrad student at the University of Illinois. He began releasing music as John Summit in 2017, and his sound ranges from rolling tech-house to melodic, vocal-driven house. 

Australian house producer and DJ Dominic Matheson, known as Dom Dolla, has over 300 million streams to date. As an ARIA award winner for the song “San Francisco” with multiple smash originals, collaborations, and official remixes, Dom Dolla has solidified himself as a top house artist. After many back-to-backs and a prominently-publicized friendship, these two will be closing out the MegaMirage on Sunday with the world premiere of their new collaborative project, ‘Everything Always’.

JVNA

Stage: The Continuum

Jana Ma, known mononymously as JVNA, was raised in California by Taiwanese immigrants. She studied classical piano from the age of 6, and went to college at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she learned to score films and video games. Where some producers may use five, she utilizes 20 to 30 instruments in one sequence. ”I feel like that played a huge role in the way my music is so very cinematic. I tend to compose sounds in a way where someone would think about writing for an orchestra” she says of her music production. Inspired by future bass, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist JVNA experimented by making fun edits and remixes of her favorite anime and video game soundtracks. After her MapleStory Login Theme was shared by the game developers, it exploded online, earning half a million views in 24 hours. An early Twitch music streamer, she’s built a strong following and earned a reputation among her peers as technically gifted.

KREAM

Stage: The Convergence

KREAM is a Norwegian DJ and house record producer duo consisting of brothers Daniel and Markus Slettebakken. Discovered through their SoundCloud remixes, the duo has gained worldwide attention for their unique take on melodic tech house, with over a billion streams of their original music. In 2020, KREAM launched their LIQUID : LAB series, where they livestreamed sets across varying breathtaking locations around Norway, juxtaposing interesting architecture and nature with a one-hour mashup of the latest dance tracks. On YouTube, this series has become one of the biggest online events in dance music.

Nora en Pure b2b Franky Wah

Nora En Pure, born Daniela Di Lillo, is a Swiss-South African DJ and deep house producer. She finds creative inspiration in nature, which is apparent in her production and sets. A master at weaving her influences of South African roots with her love for classical music, she combines tribal percussion with traditional Western instrumentals, while creating emotional melodies and harmonies with piano, strings, wind instruments and synthesizers. Nora gained international recognition by touring, with appearances at Coachella Festival on the Yuma stage (known for hosting the best artists of deep house and techno music), at the Tomorrowland “Daybreak Session” (a 3-hour set on the mainstage of alongside Joris Voorn, Carl Cox and others), and through an extensive catalog of EP’s and remixes. 

Franky Wah, born Luke Storrs, was raised in Yorkshire, in the north of England. His fusion of emotional and catchy hooks creates a sound that can resonate with both the underground and commercial ends of dance music. He has garnered far-reaching support, from big names ranging from Tale of Us to Tiësto. Franky has signed a full EP to techno powerhouse Afterlife, becoming one out of a handful of British artists to appear on the label.

Nostalgix

Negar Hamidzadeh was born in Iran with roots in the Canadian dance music scene.s a producer, writer, and rapper, Nostalgix is the epitome of a triple-threat in the industry. A modern-day version of the ’90’s ‘It Girl,” she is determined to build a positive environment in dance music with her spunky personality which is showcased via her unmistakable musical style in tracks such as “Spice Girl.” She’s appeared on numerous leading dance labels, including Night Bass, Confession, Thrive Music, Insomniac Records, UKF, and more.

Zeds Dead b2b GRiZ

Zeds Dead is a Canadian electronic music duo from Toronto, Canada, consisting of Dylan Mamid, also known as DC, and Zachary Rapp-Rovan, also known as Hooks. Leaders in the worldwide bass community, Zeds Dead continues to push electronic music forward with their innovative style that fuses together a multitude of genres, from dubstep, drum & bass, to hip hop. Their trendsetting indie label and events powerhouse, Deadbeats Records, launched officially in 2016, and is known today as one of the fastest growing labels, touting more than 150 releases across its genre-blurring discography. 

Grant Richard Kwiecinski, known as GriZ, is an American DJ, songwriter, and electronic music producer from Southfield, Michigan. His live shows, which mix improvised saxophone, guitar, vocals, and the 15-piece GRiZ Live Band, have become massive draws around the world. He created his own label, All Good Records, where he not only promotes his own self-described future-funk sound, but aims to represent “old school motown soul, future funk, new disco, cutting edge electronica, and anything on the forefront of new sound.” GRiZ has collaborations with major artists like Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Matisyahu, DRAM, and Bootsy Collins.
