Few names resonate as distinctly as Truth and Lies. Celebrating ten years in the industry, the musical duo reflects on a journey marked by evolution, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of musical excellence. Sitting down with us at the DnD Rec party during Miami Music week where they played six shows, Truth x Lies shares insights into the duo’s path and what the future holds.

From Humble Beginnings to Main Stage Magic
Truth x Lies didn’t emerge overnight. The artists behind Truth x Lies, Ian and Ryan met each other and bonded over throwing parties together in Manhattan back in 2012, playing Moombahton, and producing Trap and Latin house before finding their groove in Tech House during the pandemic and playing Discovery Project in 2017—a pivot that they describe as a defining moment.
“It’s been a long journey with its ups and downs, but the breakthrough moments, like our discovery project in 2017, really put us on the map. It was our first festival, and suddenly, people started paying more attention, listening to two tracks instead of one.”
With their wide experience in multiple genres, TxL’s music is a unique blend. “We love to sample everything—from reggae to hip hop” they added, underscoring their diverse musical influences and approach to production. With nine new tracks ready to drop over the next year, we’re excited to catch their shows and listen to their new music.
Staying Grounded Amidst the Touring Chaos
Touring can be grueling, especially while producing and working jobs outside of music, but we could easily tell that Ian and Ryan are incredibly hard working individuals that manage time and energy well for what they are passionate about.
“We did our first national tour last year, so we had to take two months to write 8 to 9 records and now they’re solidly coming out…There’s been times when I really wished I was in bed right now. But we generally like don’t drink or do drugs. I like to go to the gym when I’m traveling, it really makes a big difference.”
Advice for Aspiring Musicians
As an artist development and charity-focused organization, we asked the duo what kind of advice they would give to themselves if they can go back in time.
“It’s a slow and steady thing to build up your catalog. You just keep going until someone recognizes you. I feel like a lot of new artists are afraid of showing themselves.
Everybody is different. Some people are more personable and able to do the social media thing, some people are more of studio rats and they just want to make their music, and some people don’t even like to talk about music on socials, and for some people, that’s all they talk about right? Find your lane, and stick with it…Also, don’t neglect social media. It’s as important as making music—maybe even more so now. The need for a robust online presence and personal branding has never been more critical in the digital age.”
