Wakyin returns to Insomniac Records with his sophomore release on the label, following the success of his afro house collab “Closer” with Bantu, which has amassed over 2.2 million streams since its release in August. “Matador” marks an exciting new chapter for Wakyin, showcasing his signature fusion of rhythmically charged global house music and rich cultural storytelling.

“Matador” entrances listeners with iridescent progressive house synth lines, dynamic rhythmic elements, and a captivating interplay between light and dark. Vibarco’s smooth, evocative vocals glide over angelic choir harmonies before plunging into a darker soundscape underscored by pulsing basslines, grunting fills, and ostinato piano chords. “I found this vocal and just knew I had to flip it,” says Wakyin. “It was a bit different before with a slower tempo, but I spiced it up a little, and I love the final product. Or as the streets say, “En la Calle le dicen el matador.”

Wakyin, born Christian Rivera-Joaquin, draws inspiration from his Dominican and Puerto Rican roots. He blends merengue, bachata, and salsa influences into his vibrant productions. From the lively streets of Latin America to stages across the globe, his unique sound has earned him a devoted fanbase and high-profile gigs at EDC Mexico, Superior Ingredients Roof in NYC, and upcoming performances at The Ground Miami MMW, KOKO London, and an Open Air party in Queens this summer.

Vibarco, a three-time ASCAP award-winning songwriter, has collaborated with international icons like Maluma, Anitta, Ca7triel, and Shakira, bringing his lyrical prowess to “Matador” in a performance that adds a rich layer of storytelling and emotion to the track.
