We got a chance to catch up with NURKO (Jack Leech) on his first Groove Cruise. He shared how when he was a kid he watched his dad play guitar and it inspired him to become a musician before he produced. He goes on to share with us some of his favorite collaborations, including his track “Sideways” with Illenium and Valerie Broussard. A big moment for him as an artist was during Digital Mirage presented by Proximity and Brownies and Lemonade which gave him huge reach to an extended fanbase.
Jack also shares with us his experience and how that has translated to his creative process in making music as well. A challenge for NURKO has been trying to find the balance between sounding like himself, while still experimenting and keeping things fresh.Â
On a music influence level, Jack shares with us his biggest influence and what he chose to incorporate in his music from the golden era of EDM. Something new that I learned is that Jack also used to work in the mental health space, supporting patients through tough times. Having that experience, he has also often used that to channel the music and art he makes to share with the world.
Just like most of us at Neon Owl, NURKO is an animal lover, and is obsessed with cats, which makes us even bigger fans. Watch the full interview to learn his favorite animal (which also happens to be the happiest animal in the world), and a speed round of Groove Cruise themed questions.Â
